"Coming home!"

Our Mission

Snesie& is committed to making the history and heritage of Chinese-Surinamese, especially Hakka-Chinese, communities visible, researching it and sharing it.

We want to:

Document the forgotten history of Chinese contract labour and migration
Break the culture of silence between generations
Strengthen historical awareness and identity Power
Contribute to a more inclusive story about Dutch colonial history.

Through research, heritage participation and social dialogue, we bring family stories, history and culture together.

If you know where you come from, you know where you're going.

Our Vision

Snesie& aims for a society where Chinese-Surinamese heritage is recognised as an integral part of Dutch history.

In this society:

diverse perspectives are structurally included in education and public institutions,
communities have control over their own heritage and stories,
new generations feel connected to their history,
and shared heritage and historical awareness contribute to inclusion and social cohesion.
