Becoming aware of Chinese Surinamese history

Where: Pep, Riviervismarkt 2, 2513 AM The Hague

When: Sunday 1 November 2026 from 1:00 PM to 5:30 PM

PEP in The Hague

On 1 November, the Snesie& foundation is organising a heritage storytelling session at PEP in The Hague.

In a heritage storytelling session, unknown stories are shared and historical awareness and identity strength are reinforced.

This time, Charles Chang will take the audience through a special untold history: children who were sent to China so they wouldn't forget their roots and culture. A life-changing choice that affected both the child and the family.

We will talk together about this legacy/history. How does it feel to return to a place that no longer feels like home and what are the social consequences of this? And just as importantly: how does the community now preserve Surinamese-Chinese culture and pass it on?

The heritage tori-osos are a follow-up to the kick-off of the Snesie& foundation on 17 October. Even if you weren't at the kick-off, you're warmly welcome to join. The programme is the same for all three meetings; when registering, you just choose one date.

Forgot to sign up for the kick-off on 17 October?
